I’ve been reading a lot recently about how illustrators work. How they sketch and plan, and finally end up with the final piece.
But a lot of the time, with my work, I start a new piece not knowing which direction I’m going to take it. I can often be persuaded by current surroundings. Or old ones.
Whilst I was drawing this piece, I was listening to my playlists from my travels around South Korea and Japan in early 2013. I had spent a while playing with some abstract painting techniques when I started pulling out “petal” looking shapes.
It all just fell into place and took me right back to my favourite city in Japan, walking through temples surrounded by cherry blossoms right in the centre of Kyoto.
